David,

LinkedIn actually does know some abbreviations, and probably knows Dave and David are the same.

However, don’t forget to put in the misspelling Stien for people who believe “i before e except after c”.

Thanks for this tip. I’m known as Dave Stein, but some people incorrectly call me David. They wouldn’t have been able to find me on LinkedIn or the Internet in general. I just added a sentence including David at the bottom of my LinkedIn summary. Great tip!

That’s certainly a useful tip for many people. I have a different question.

Is there a way for people to put an audio file up on the way they pronounce their name? I mean, we post websites, interests, and current work projects. But would we ever know how to begin a conversation with someone?

Besides, I would love to hear your Irish brogue.
